I love food. Always have. In fact, I probably loved food a little bit too much as a kid and my favourite uncle used to call me ‘pork chop’. I used to bake a lot as a kid and would bake cakes for my mum’s friends who came over to play mah jong (a Chinese card game) for afternoon tea. I grew up with a family that loves to cook and a family that was obsessed with food. When I relocated to London, I was oblivious to the Great British Bake Off and auditioned for the 1st series and was lucky enough to meet Mary Berry at the first casting calls and even went through to the initial screen test (but okay didn’t get past that point).
But the real reason why I’ve decided to start this blog is because I am married to a vegetarian. Now, for those who know me, this is quite a big deal. I have nothing against vegetarianism and I am very respectful of one’s lifestyle choice. However, I love food, especially meat, seafood and all things in-between. When I told my family and friends “I met someone and he’s vegetarian” this caused a huge stir amongst the family and friend community. Fortunately he’s not too strict a veggie but I thought it would be great to be able to have a blog where I could share recipes where there were two options ‘veg’ and ‘non-veg’. Of course, this blog is not to be exclusively for veg/non-veg options – I’ll also share recipes for the omnivores amongst us. To make things even more unconventional, my husband loves cooking meat and he will be part of this adventure as cook, food stylist and best friend in helping me with this blog.
I’ve lived in many places around the world – born in Australia, grew up part of my childhood in Malaysia, did a stint in New York and London is now my home. The influences will be pulled from all over the world and in particular from my south east asian roots. I hope you enjoy this journey with me.
